QotD: Happy President's Day!
Ever run for office? (School, club, organization, politics, etc.) Did you get elected?
Not much lately, but quite a bit when I was younger. Though in many organizations, they weren't so much elections as pleas for help. I can't even remember what all I was in high school and college. I think I held an FTA office of some sort. Probably secretary. I give off a secretarial vibe. I join a group and am almost immediately appointed as secretary. I do remember that I was the secretary for the AFS club. CYF got a little competitive sometimes, and I was actually surprised that I got elected to various positions, including the regional cabinet. In college, my main activity was Sigma Alpha Iota, and I held several Iota Mu chapter positions, such as corresponding secretary and recording secretary. I was also an officer in Drury's French Club, but as we only had 4 or 5 members, I don't suppose it matters which office I held. I think I may have been the president.
My activity level in Mensa varies, and I need to get back into it, as I'm actually the appointed coordinator for my region. In Missouri Ozarks Mensa, I served first as treasurer and then was secretary for a long time. I ran for loc-sec (president) once, but I voted for my opponent. And I lost. By one vote. And I won't say any more about Loc-Sec Elsa, lest somebody get the idea that I am a vicious bitch. Oh, wait, I am a vicious bitch. Ah, well, Elsa is a story for another day. Suffice it to say that, no matter how overwhelmed I feel at election time, if I'm on the ballot, I'm voting for myself.
I was an officer the entire time I was a member of Sleuths' Ink. I showed up at a meeting, and they made me secretary. I was treasurer for a while, too, and I was the president when I moved to Wisconsin.
